"We love because love makes us whole, it is all we are; it is all we wish to be. In love we find Love; we discover the source of Love: God alone. We stretch our love like a sail against the wind and allow the current of our passion to guide us straight into the divine heart."
B. Lanzetta
The passion of the spiritual quest is more ardent and more intense than most earthly romances. The soul that is seeking truth is consumed by an emotional necessity to be one with its Beloved. It is a love of the most profound sort that is not often found in this life. It is a love that dissolves the boundaries of the self, opening us to the infinite dimension of being. A yearning of our whole being for the Divine, it is love of truth that we seek. Desires squandered on lesser things are but unrealized attempts for a more noble future: to bea new person, to be holy. And it is this yearning to experience the holy and then to be holy that is love of God alone, the first and foremost principle. When we love God alone we see in the ordinary events of life something of the miracle and majesty of Mystery itself. When we see the world without veils, we finally realize that there is only one object of our desires: to see the divine face-to-face in all things. Loving God alone is never exclusive, because all life is the Divine imprint. It is always inclusive, an embracement. Living in a state of "awareness", it is the practice of profound and compassionate awareness. It is a commitment to open our hearts to love, and to hold the world and each other in divine embrace. Compassionate awareness is the sight of God's own eye, looking upon our hurts, worries, and despairs. When we include all creation in our hearts, we unlock the chamber of holy awareness. What would the Divine see or how would the Divine act toward our suffering or the suffering of others? What makes the cosmos dance with joy; what brings to others holy grace? This is what loving God alone means. As we love purely and completely, we see past our lives straight into divine life to lift everything up to its true image and likeness.
